The correct grip will have a major bearing on how well you can strike the balls. Do not have too tight a grip on the club, this would impact on the amount of energy that can be transferred. Hold the club firm, but not so tight that your knuckles become white.
The club should strike the golf ball at approximately four fifths of the way down in order to gain the true distance from your club selection, otherwise you will either cause a mis hit or the ball will go to high in the air and not go anywhere near the correct distance. The grip you take on your club is crucial and this comes with experience, grip the club to tight and you will get a nasty vibration in your arm or if your grip is to loose, the club might fly out of your hand or cause a sliced shot.
Since this one movement, think of it as one word, a slideandturn. The slide continues and leads quickly, without interruption, into a turn.
The key to making all this happen is to start your downswing with a slide to the left with your left hip, moving right into a turn with the left hip. The slide starts moving your weight from the right side to the left side, and the turn is what opens up the way for your arms to bring the club straight into the ball.
One of the simpler ways to keep fit for golf is to hold a club on both arms behind your back and twist from one side to another, as far as you can, holding each twist for about 2-3 seconds. This will not only warm up the rotational muscles you use in your swing, but will also get the blood flowing and you will be able to get your arms right back for the swing and give it a good follow through.
Mentally draw a straight line from your ball to your big target. Along that line select something on the ground within three feet of your ball. It can be anything - a twig, a leaf, a discolored patch of grass, a divot, a piece of clover, anything that will serve as a visual reference. Selecting an intermediate target is the most important thing you do in preparing to play a power shot.
To protect yourself from slicing, as you swing, you should transfer the weight from one foot to the other appropriately. Your weight needs to naturally transfer to your back foot when you take your backswing, and your weight should shift to your lead foot as you progress into your downswing. If this isn't happening, then there's a problem with your swing which should be adderssed.
